FSQ Chemist I

Position Purpose
The Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) Chemist I is responsible for applying general scientific understanding of quality assurance and food/feed safety technology and processes across a location in the following areas of focus: testing and auditing process documentation, data collection and analysis, and facilitating knowledge transfer. With direction from more senior team members this role ensures products meet or exceed customer requirements for food/feed safety and quality. Assurance of product quality requires the chemist to monitor quality assurance systems including instrumentation calibration, maintenance, cross-checks, methods, procedures, raw materials, food/feed safety, and training.
Principal Accountabilities
30% Perform Prevention Activities and Issue Resolution ? Conducts routine sampling, testing and auditing of products and ingredients to ensure compliance to government, customer and business standards on food/feed safety and quality. Uses basic scientific understanding to provide input to testing and auditing methods. Uses pre-defined criteria to inspect plant operations environment and equipment to ensure compliance with quality and food/feed safety standards. Reports any possible concerns of non-compliance or non-conformance to food safety/quality standards.
30% Develop, Implement and Assess Process and Systems ? Assists with assessment of quality assurance systems, equipment and parameters (e.g., calibration, oversight of testing performed, procedures, instrumentation, etc.). Assists with routine to complex maintenance and calibration on laboratory and testing equipment and independently performs general upkeep of laboratory and testing areas. Manages inventory control and purchasing of laboratory and testing supplies to assure all items required for testing and are available.
30% Collect and Analyze Data, Document Results ? Documents testing results and conducts routine analysis. Identifies possible trends and provides input on next steps to address trends. Documents and shares best practices across team and occasionally, with a cross-functional audience. Document audit and test data and results accurately and appropriately in the correct information management system(s). Organizes and maintains accurate and pertinent data (e.g., spreadsheets, graphs, reports, etc.) to assure that processes and products, and any changes, are controlled. Maintains systems/techniques for reporting data across functional areas.
10% Shape Food/Feed Safety, Quality and Regulatory Culture ? Assists in the delivery of training materials for internal employees at various levels in the organization related to food/feed safety and quality issues, practices and risks. Promotes the development of food/feed safety and quality culture.

Travel will be about 10% and primarily domestic. However, candidate must be able to travel internationally if needed. Position must be able to travel when needed and work nights, weekends when necessary. Position will perform audits and inspections in diverse environments, including that of a production environment where physical activity is required (Light: Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10 lbs. of force frequently). Position will be interacting with laboratories and chemicals.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in science, chemistry, microbiology, quality assurance or other applicable field
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary
Ability to work independently
Ability to manage a large workload with multiple priorities
Demonstrated ability of leadership, motivation, interpersonal effectiveness, teamwork and successful completion of work
Ability to make decisions under pressure
Ability to adapt and learn in a changing work environment

Ability Lifting up to 50 lbs
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years of working experience with 1 or more years in a technical related field such as plant operations food safety and/or quality assurance
Experience and knowledge in salt processing and manufacturing (solution mine, solar, rock and/or evaporation)
Animal food/feed knowledge, especially pet food
Experience with food manufacturing environments, preferably in dry food processing
Experience interacting with external stakeholders (i.e. certifying bodies, suppliers, external manufacturers, customers, etc.)
Ability to relate technical knowledge to solve complex testing and process problems
Ability to translate and communicate analytical data and technical knowledge to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Demonstrated project management skills
Laboratory Knowledge including Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) programs and instrumentation
SAP and/or Enablon software experience
GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) experience or exposure
Statistical Process Control (SPC) experience

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
